Many Volunteers Needed for
Year 2001 Festivals & Special Events
The Cascade Geographic Society is looking for
volunteers to assist in their Year 2001 festivals and special events. People of
all ages and abilities are needed for a variety of tasks.
The following are the dates and times of the festivals and special events that
are sponsored by the Cascade Geographic Society that are in need of volunteers.
They are listed below in the order of their dates:
"Mount Hood Oregon Trail Quilt Show &
Old-Time Fiddlers Jamboree" --- July 21st (Saturday), 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
and July 22nd (Sunday), 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Saturday there will be a special
"Evening Concert" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. performed by the Oregon
Old-Time Fiddlers, followed by a "Gospel Show on Sunday from 10 a.m. to
Noon. Beginning at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. will be the "Oregon Trail Vintage &
Classic Motorcar Show & Tour".
"Mount Hood
Huckleberry Festival & Barlow Trail Days" --- August 24th (Friday),
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; August 25th (Saturday), 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and August 26th
(Sunday), 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This is our largest Festival and we need a lot
of assistance. We have Oregon Trail tours scheduled for Friday and Saturday
evenings that we'll need extra volunteers for; assistance
setting up and tearing down the sound system for "Great Northwest Music
Stage", not to mention assisting with the stage; assistance during the
"Huckleberry Music Jam" and the "Huckleberry Evening
Concert" on Saturday; assistance with the "World's Record-Breaking
Watermelon Launch" on Saturday afternoon; setting up and tearing-down
booths; putting out highway signs; bagging Huckleberries; assisting with the
"Huckleberry Vintage & Classic
Motorcar Show & Tour"; and a whole lot more.
"Mount Hood Salmon & Mushroom Festival"
--- October 6th (Saturday), 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and October 7th (Sunday), 9 a.m.
to 6 p.m.
On Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., will be the
"Mount Hood Loop Vintage & Classic Motorcar Show & Tour" that
will be in need of volunteers. In addition, on Saturday the "Oregon State
Chili Championship" will take place, and the "Mount Hood Grilling
Championship" taking place on Sunday.
"Mount Hood Public Lands Clean-Up"
--- November 3rd (Saturday), from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
This event is in need of volunteers not only for
assisting in the clean-up of illegal dumpsites, but also in unloading trucks at
the dumpsters.
"Christmas Along the Barlow Trail"
--- December 8th (Saturday),
The Oregon Trail Heritage Day" will take
place between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.; and December
9th (Sunday), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the "Oregon Trail Heritage Tour"
will be provided to the public. Volunteers are needed for both days.
Please note that listed above are only some of the
festivals and special events in need of volunteers. The Cascade Geographic
Society has other volunteer opportunities that could use assistance. These needs
range from restoration of the Oregon Trail to the enhancement of fish and
wildlife habitats, to assisting with the restoration of the "Portland
Underground" (the Shanghai Tunnels), to assisting with the development of
living history exhibits, to restoring historic buildings, conducting research,
and a whole lot more.
The donation of a few hours could mean a great deal to the Cascade Geographic
Society. The jobs needing assistance are many and are diverse. Your talents and
expertise might just be a perfect match. Some of this work you can do right at
