Goals and Purpose of the Cascade Geographic Society:

bullet

To Preserve and Protect public resources for future generations.

To provide education about the historical, cultural, and natural resource significance of the region historically known as the Old Oregon Country.

To preserve and promote the Cultural, Historical, and Natural Resources of the Cascade Mountain Range and all the lands and waters that it influences.

To create opportunities for people from all walks of life and of all abilities to utilize and experience historic and natural sites, as well as contribute to their preservation.

To strengthen the awareness of the interrelationships that exist between all lands, waters, and resources that make up this vast region.

To play an integral role in economic development through ecologically-based tourism and recreation.

To work towards creating fish and wildlife sanctuaries in the Mount Hood Area and elsewhere in the Cascade Mountain Range.

To restore and enhance fish and wildlife habitats in the Mount Hood Area and elsewhere in the Cascade Mountain Range.

Founding Members:
The Cascade Geographic Society was founded in 1979 as a research organization.

Founding members included the following individuals and others who served as the mentors of Michael P. Jones, who was selected to create a museum, a resource preservation program, a habitat restoration program, and carry on the heritage traditions that historically have represented Mount Hood and the Cascade Mountain Range.

the late Charlie Augustine--former owner of the Hoodland Telephone Company

the late Jim Rogan--retired U.S. Forest Service

the late Hallard Bailey--former teacher and Barlow Trail Maintenance Supervisor

Lutie Welch Bailey--daughter of former trading-post-operator turned resort-developer, and grand-daughter of Samuel Welch, an Oregon Trail pioneer who founded the Village of Welches and developed the Old Welches Resort

Members of the Cascade Geographic Society:
Members of the Cascade Geographic Society are comprised of a widely diverse group of people from different socio-economic backgrounds that represent all walks of life.

Included are white-collar and blue-collar workers, retirees, educators, and entire families.

Membership is open to individuals who love history and nature, and who believe that education and preservation can assist in preserving our public resources for future generations. For information on how you can become a member please contact us.
