We are happy to announce the return of a world class chili
cook-off to the Portland metropolitan area. The Cascade Geographic Society is
hosting the Oregon State Chili Championship and Light BBQ Competition as part of
the Mount Hood Salmon and Mushroom Festival. The October 7, 2001 Chili cook-off is a
CASI sanctioned event with the top three Oregon cooks qualifying to represent
Oregon in the world Championship.
We need twenty cooks/teams to make this event
a success and your participation will not only ensure future events but it's
going to be a really fun event for the cooks with lots of new and special
activities. There will be live music all day, vendors and a lively public to
interact with. Did I mention that the top showmanship team is also eligible to
go to Texas.
There are many places to stay in the Welches area but the Mt.
Hood Village is offering a very special rate for participants, their reservation
number is (503) 622-4011. (This offer was made in 2000, you will need to call
and see if it is still vaild)
If you know someone who might want to try their hand
at cooking - we have a "new cooks packet" that explains how to become
involved in chili cooking and it features several prize winning recipes.
There
will also be three upcoming training classes for those who like actual hands-on
instruction. In 2001 it was offered during the Mount Hood Huckleberry Festival.
We hope to see you
there.
